Basel Mission

The Basel Mission was founded in 1815. In 1816, the Basel Mission opened a mission seminar in Basel and, in 1821, sent the first seminarians to the Caucasus. In 1828, the mission started its work in Ghana, in 1834 in South India, and in 1847 the first missionaries travelled to South China. Due to its history of working almost two-hundred years in Africa and Asia, and due to its efforts in Latin America since the 1970s, the Basel Mission brings numerous contacts and relations to Mission 21. Mission 21 continues to maintain the extensive archive of the Basel Mission. It contains a multitude of historical textual, audio and photographic sources, as well as historical maps.
