South Africa Mission

The South Africa Mission (formerly the Swiss Mission in South Africa) goes back to the mission movement of the Eglise Libre of the Waadt canton (1874), which was already supported in German Switzerland by circles of friends. It maintains relationships with groups and churches in six countries: Angola, Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique and Zambia. Today, these relationships are maintained by the Dˇpartement Mission et Echange in Lausanne and mission 21 together.

In this cause, we are endeavouring to live the gospel of Jesus Christ in exchange with our partners. The basis of our work is a theology grown from the ecumenical movement and exchange with our partners. We learn from our partners in South Africa that reconciliation and healing can be applied where the truth comes to light and justice prevails.

We accordingly support Christians in South Africa in their municipal and social duties. We follow the political run of events there with interest. In Switzerland, we commit ourselves to overhauling history and to aiding victims of the former apartheid regime. We mediate information and contacts into South Africa. Due to the common mission history, the South Africa mission is connected with the Cevaa church community, community of churches in mission, that arose from the former Paris Mission. There are some partner churches in South Africa who belong to it.
