The 14th Dalai Lama appreciates the work of Mission 21

"His Holiness very much appreciates your work to promote justice, peace and reconciliation." This message reaches Mission 21 at the beginning of the year from India, sent by the highest master of Tibetan Buddhism, the 14th Dalai Lama.

The gratifying mail came from Dharamsala, India, the seat of the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso. The message, written in English, acknowledges the work of Mission 21 in all its thematic areas.

"His Holiness very much appreciates your work to promote justice, peace and reconciliation, education and combat poverty and disease around the world. He therefore commends your Organisation's work towards building peace and development in the world." The e-Mail was written by the Dalai Lama's personal secretary and concludes with the words: "His Holiness sends you his prayers and good wishes."

Interfaith Peace Message

The occasion for this message was an e-Mail from Mission 21 to the spiritual leader of the Tibetans. In the context of interreligious peacebuilding and intercultural exchange, Mission 21 has been working for years with representatives of different religions and is increasingly engaging in exchange across religious boundaries.

The Dalai Lama's response is a sign of appreciation for the work of Mission 21 - and for the importance of interfaith cooperation worldwide. The introductory sentence in particular emphasises the peacemaking potential of religions: "As you know, all major religions carry the same message of love and compassion." In this spirit, the Dalai Lama encourages Mission 21 to continue spreading this message and to promote peace and development in the world.
