Core themes of our programme work

Mission 21 aims to improve education and health, to promote peace and to achieve the goal of agriculture and livelihood security. Our commitment embraces 20 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America with about 100 projects, and we are also involved in long-term development cooperation work, emergency aid and reconstruction. To achieve our aims, we collaborate with over 70 partner churches and partner organisations. We advocate gender equity and capacity development in all our programmes and projects.

Gender equity: all human beings should be able to lead lives that are free from discrimination. Women and men should have the same access to resources, and the same possibilities for taking decisions in society, politics or churches. Religions help women and men to exercise their rights. We are working towards these objectives in all our programmes and in every partner country. To achieve them, Mission 21 focuses on the advancement of women, gender mainstreaming and advocacy work in support of women.

Capacity development means the development of abilities and skills, and also of processes and structures. Through capacity development, Mission 21 empowers individuals, organisations and societies so that they can acquire, strengthen and maintain abilities and skills. They should set their own development goals and be able to achieve them effectively and sustainably.

Sustainable and impact-oriented

Our programme work is sustainable and impact-oriented. We are committed to human rights and we endeavour to bring about justice, religious freedom and peace all over the world. Among the outstanding features of our cooperation work are the long-term relationships we maintain with over 70 partner churches and partner organisations in 20 countries. Freedom from corruption is fundamental to our work, and we take care to guarantee transparency.

As a faith-based organisation (FBO), we focus on the potential offered by religion to ensure quality and sustainability in development cooperation. With this in mind, we collaborate with people from different religious backgrounds and we advocate interfaith peace.
