CEK, Kwango Evangelical Community
The Communauté Évangélique du Kwango (Kwango Evangelical Community, CEK) has 35,000 members, 13,000 of whom live in Kinshasa. The CEK gained government recognition in 1958. It is a member of the Eglise du Christ au Congo (Church of Christ in the Congo, ECC), the union of all Protestant churches in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The CEK is one of the few functioning institutions in the Kwango region. It operates on a territory that is approximately the same size as Switzerland. Thanks to its regional development programme covering basic healthcare, agriculture, education and promotion of women's rights, it has become one of the main beacons of hope for the native population.
