IMECH-SEDEC, Methodist Church of Chile
The Development and Community Education Service (Servicio para el desarrollo y la educación comunitaria, SEDEC) is part of the social work organisation of the Methodist Church of Chile. It has existed since 1983, when it came into being in response to the emergency situation under the military dictatorship. SEDEC is involved in a project focusing on women and healthcare for the disadvantaged population, paying heed to values such as solidarity, respect, justice and democracy. SEDEC enjoys an excellent reputation and great trust among the target population in the poor districts. Collaboration with governmental bodies, health centres and schools has gained importance in recent years. SEDEC sees itself as a charitable NGO that is open to anyone with an interest in its work, regardless of their religious or political affiliation. Mission 21 has been collaborating with SEDEC since 1984.
