\n\tMission 21 invites you to the second International Forum for Interreligious and Transcultural Peacebuilding on September 19 and 20, 2024<\/b> in! The theme of the two-day online conference is \"DARING RECONCILIATION?!\" - \"Daring reconciliation?!\"<\/p>\n
Is reconciliation even possible in polarized conflict situations, as we find in many countries? What do psychological and philosophical concepts, experiences from peace processes and from religious traditions and spiritual practices teach us?<\/p>\n
Our attractive program includes keynote speeches by experts from inter-faith and transcultural peace initiatives in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Workshops will give plenty of opportunity to exchange ideas on peacebuilding and reconciliation with experts and interested participants \u2013 last year\u2019s International Forum welcomed more than 100 people from all over the world!<\/p>\n\t

Keynote speakers<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t Father in South Africa, Niwano Peace Prize Laureate 2021 and currently President of the Healing of Memories Global Network.<\/p>\n\t\t\t Professor of Gender and Development. She is Chairperson of the African Women's Leadership Network and one of the 100 Leading Women 2024 in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\t\t\t Theologian, national instructor in the religious moderation program of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. <\/p>\n\tThe event is open to the public and free of charge.<\/strong> Initially, reconciliation is recommended and demanded as the basis for a peace process. Reconciliation is probably understood by most people as a resumption or resumption of a broken relationship or a rapprochement between conflicting parties with the intention of making it more positive and peaceful. What can stand in the way of this?<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tA closer look reveals the different levels of this process and its complexity: <\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t On the one hand, reconciliation can be understood as an inner process, linked to finding one's identity and reconciliation with individual experiences and imprints. Coming to terms with oneself and one's own pain requires courage and often time and energy.<\/p>\n Reconciliation also describes processes in relationships in which two or more people move towards each other again through encounters and dialog after conflicts and injuries. Engaging with other people's pain and exposing oneself to honest feedback is both rewarding and challenging.<\/p>\n Reconciliation can also be seen as a necessity in relation to conflict parties at a societal level and between states and can include coming to terms with historical events or cultural influences. In addition to the current armed conflicts, polarized disputes and conflicts over resources, in which issues such as climate change or migration are emotionally charging and hardening the fronts, are also currently moving us. Apart from contractual agreements, legal judgments and ceasefire agreements that end or limit an armed conflict - is a process of reconciliation also necessary to achieve peace in the long term? Is reconciliation as an inner attitude helpful or even possible at the level of structures and societies?<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tThe idea of the International Forum<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t In each case, reconciliation touches on one's own identity and therefore affects various aspects of human coexistence in society, politics and religion.<\/p>\n The International Forum for Interreligious and Transcultural Peacebuilding seeks to clarify and understand the step of reconciliation within a peace process, at all levels mentioned.<\/p>\n We exchange views on the necessary conditions for a reconciliation process to take place, share successful examples of interventions and approaches that can be promising on the path to reconciliation.<\/p>\n In addition to models of therapeutic support and coaching in expression and communication, the importance of spirituality, religion and theological approaches and the role of religious institutions and organizations are also discussed. Faith-Based<\/em> organizations, as well as aspects of jurisprudence, economics and politics. An attempt to shed light in a diverse and holistic way on how the process of reconciliation can be dared and succeed. We hope that a forum in an international learning community will provide inspiring and new perspectives on reconciliation processes worldwide.<\/p>\n\t\t\t \"In the end, reconciliation is a spiritual process, which requires more than just a legal framework. It has to happen in the hearts and minds of people.\"Nelson Mandela<\/em><\/p>\t\t\n\t\t\t \"It is not \"forgive and forget\" as if nothing wrong had ever happened, but \"forgive and go forward\", building on the mistakes of the past and the energy generated by reconciliation to create a new future.\"Alan Paton<\/em><\/p>\t\t\n Fr. Michael was involved in the South African anti-apartheid movement and supported the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). He was chaplain of the trauma center for victims of violence and torture in Cape Town and founded the Institute for Healing of Memories there in 1998. He has six honorary doctorates and was awarded the Queen's Service Medal by New Zealand. From 2014-2017 he was Vice President of the South African Council of Churches. In 2021 he was awarded the Niwano Peace Prize. Today he is President of the Healing of Memories Global Network.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tLearn more about Father Michael Lapsley<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t Fr. Michael Lapsley is a New Zealand-born South African who was ordained in the Anglican Society of the Holy Mission (SSM). He came to South Africa as a student in 1973 and soon became chaplain to both black and white students at the universities in Durban. After advocating for the victims of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, he was expelled from South Africa, became a member of the African National Congress and chaplain to the organization in exile, and traveled the world mobilizing faith communities to resist apartheid. He lost both hands, the sight in one eye and suffered severe burns after receiving a letter bomb from the apartheid regime. He returned to South Africa in 1992 to become chaplain of the Trauma Center for Victims of Violence and Torture in Cape Town and to support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), which led to the founding of the Institute for Healing of Memories in Cape Town in 1998. He received 6 honorary doctorates and was awarded the Queen's Service Medal by New Zealand. Fr. Michael was Vice President of the South African Council of Churches from 2014-2017. In 2006 he co-founded the International Network for Peace with victims of terrorism from around the world to promote effective and non-violent solutions to terrorism In 2021 he was awarded the Niwano Peace Prize. Today he is President of the Healing of Memories Global Network.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t Father James is a Roman Catholic priest, has a doctorate in philosophy and was the Secretary General of the South Sudan Confederation of Churches (SSCC), where he has been in charge since April 2015.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tLearn more about Father James Oyet Latansio<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t Father James grew up in a decades-long war and is passionate about peace and reconciliation. As Secretary General of the SSCC, he has worked with various organizations, particularly on initiatives to promote peace building, healing and reconciliation in South Sudan.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t Jerda Djawa is a pastor of the Evangelical Christian Church in Halmahera and teaches Old Testament hermeneutics and contextual theology at the East Indonesian Seminary of Theological Philosophy in Makassar. Rev.
