How this campaign came about<\/h2>\n

Violence against women and children is a global problem and at the same time a very sensitive topic. That is why we deliberately took time to think about how we talk about it and what images we show when developing this campaign.<\/p>\n

Faces of change instead of images of suffering<\/h3>\n

A central point in our internal discussion was the question of whether we would show people who are themselves affected by sexualized or gender-specific violence. We made a conscious decision not to. Instead, we will focus on people who work every day to prevent, support and bring about social change: Professionals, activists, counsellors and employees of our partner organizations.<\/p>\n

A process of learning<\/h3>\n

Throughout the development of the campaign, we repeatedly and critically reviewed our content. We were supported in this by Barbara Heer, Head of the Women and Gender Unit at Mission 21. In many conversations and feedback loops, it became clear to us once again how sensitive this topic is and that content that was initially written lightly needed to be reflected on more closely.<\/p>\n

We realized that although we work in this field, we too must constantly question our own perspectives and that this learning process is ultimately a task for society as a whole.<\/p>\n

The power of words<\/h3>\n

We also use terms carefully in our language. Words such as \u201evictim\u201c or \u201eperpetrator\u201c can be useful in certain legal or professional contexts, but at the same time they can reduce people to one role. Where possible, we therefore speak of \u201evictims\u201c, \u201esurvivors\u201c or \u201epeople who have experienced violence\u201c.<\/p>\n

With this campaign, we want to inform, raise awareness and make visible how people around the world are working to overcome violence and create a more just society.<\/p>\n
