Both women and men are affected by gender-based violence, but the majority of those affected are women and girls.

Forms of gender-based violence:

Physical violence (e.g. assault, deprivation of liberty, etc.)

Sexual violence (i.e. any sexual act without the consent of the other person).

Psychological violence (e.g. coercion, insult, harassment, etc.)

Economic violence (e.g., restricting access to finance, education, etc.)

Statistics:

One in three women worldwide will be physically, sexually or otherwise abused during their lifetime. That's an estimated 736 million women and girls aged 15 and older.

Most violence against women is perpetrated by their husbands or intimate partners (former or current).

Globally, 81,000 women and girls were killed in 2020, and about 47,000 of them (58 percent) died at the hands of an intimate partner or family member.

Less than 40 percent of women who experience violence seek help in any form. Less than 10 percent of those seeking help turn to the police.

Source: https://www.unwomen.org/en/what-we-do/ending-violence-against-women/facts-and-figures

2021: JointAction We eat the world

Food is vital, tradition-laden, political.
