The 2023 campaign runs from September 10 to Mission Sunday.

The situation in Nigeria is precarious

The supply situation in north-eastern Nigeria is precarious. Climatic changes and the effects of many years of unsustainable use of natural resources are threatening the livelihoods of many people.

Nigeria is rich in natural resources. However, these are often not used sustainably and are unevenly distributed. The region is also affected by the consequences of global warming, such as longer dry seasons and heavier rainfall. Another problem is the overuse of natural resources. The soil, for example, is being depleted by the excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Large areas are being deforested in search of firewood and environmental pollution from waste and plastic is increasing. The effects include increased soil erosion, declining soil fertility and contaminated groundwater, which in turn jeopardizes the supply of water to a large part of the population.

Education in Nigeria and Switzerland for sustainable change

Together with our partners, we are tackling this problem. Through our educational work on the ground, we promote the sustainable use of natural resources and the protection of the environment. Through education, we help to ensure that small farmers and their families in rural areas in north-eastern Nigeria have a chance to secure their livelihoods in the long term. They learn how to practice agroecological agriculture, how to use natural resources sustainably and how to protect the environment.

Here in Switzerland, we also raise awareness of a resource-conserving and environmentally friendly way of life through our educational programs. We provide information on what and how we can learn for a sustainable future. In this way, we can make our contribution to ensuring that a life in dignity is possible for all people. We will inform you about our corresponding offers and campaign ideas in spring 2023.stay informed and subscribe to our campaign newsletter.

  Stay up to date

Spenden Bildung entscheidet, was wir in Zukunft ernten Mit unserer Kampagne 2023 beleuchten wir die Bedeutung von Bildung für eine ökologisch nachhaltige Entwicklung in Nigeria.
