Mission 21 supports the women's federation of the partner church CEK <\/a>in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the project \"Empowering Women in the Kwango and Poor Neighborhoods of Kinshasa.\"<\/a> The Women's Federation promotes knowledge about agroecology. Families can improve their situation through support in the area of agricultural production and seeds. In addition, the project increases the chances of young women on the labor market through a two-year vocational training. <\/p>\n

Now the Women's Federation - initially without a budget from outside - has launched an urgently needed project itself: since January, around 120 malnourished mothers and children have been cared for twice a week. The children receive high-calorie and high-protein food as well as the possibility of a shower and, if necessary, treatment against malaria and worms. The mothers are advised and also receive help if necessary.<\/span> The women finance the program from local donations. They are responding to the massive malnutrition of children in the Kwango region. Mission 21 is supporting the initiative this year with flexible project contributions and will include it in its multi-year planning. <\/p>\n

The photo was taken on the business trip of our program officers Angelika Weber and Vera Schaffer. They visited the projects of Mission 21 in the DR Congo in June. The encounter with the severely malnourished children touched them and the situation is alarming, but the project of the Women's Federation gives hope - and we can help to feed more children!
