This year, the campaign focuses on sexualized violence. The problem is huge. Every second woman in Switzerland is affected by sexualized violence, according to a study by gfs.bern (2019). "Those affected often suffer long and severely from the consequences, some for a lifetime. Despite this, sexualized violence is not addressed enough," writes cfd in its Media release to the campaign.

Prevention campaign with broad participation

The 16 Action Days are taking place for the fourteenth time this year. This year, over 150 organizations are participating throughout Switzerland. The large number of participants means that the topic of sexualized violence is highlighted intensively and the discourse is stimulated - an important aspect of prevention. All participants together set an example against sexualized violence.

The 16 action days will start on November 25, 2021, with a launch event at 12:30 p.m. in Bern on Bahnhofplatz. Posters will illustrate the extent of the violence with figures: 80 percent of the victims know the perpetrator personally. Actions will also take place in several other cities. The campaign will conclude on December 10, International Human Rights Day.

A problem internationally as well

The "16 Days Against Violence Against Women" is an international campaign. Around the world, numerous Christian organizations are also committed to ending violence against women. During the campaign, Mission 21 spreads messages of solidarity and uses examples to show that it is crucial to empower women in order to curb sexualized violence.

Violence, especially sexualized violence against women, is also a problem in various project countries where Mission 21 is active. For example, in Nigeria or South Sudan, in Indonesia or Malaysia. Together with local partner churches and partner organizations, we work to empower women with education and support women and girls affected by violence.

► The Swiss website of the "16 Days Against Violence Against Women" campaign

► The Gender Justice Program of Mission 21

            All News

On November 25, the "Day against Violence against Women" is celebrated worldwide and the start of the campaign "16 Days against Violence against Women" is proclaimed.
