\"We strongly condemn the unprofessional and irresponsible use of firearms in the midst of unarmed civilians,\" writes the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) in its Communiqu\u00e9 of November 12<\/a>. For the second time in a month, a child has been killed by police gunfire in Cameroon.<\/p>\n

Both incidents happened in connection with road controls. They show how tense the situation is in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon. The violence is related to with the conflict<\/a> between the French-speaking Cameroonian central government and the Anglophone population in the west of the country. The dispute, which has been smoldering for decades, escalated in 2016 and has since claimed more and more victims among the civilian population.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of thousands of people have already been displaced by the violence. Since the outbreak of the conflict, Mission 21's work on the ground has focused on the most vulnerable people. Violence is increasingly shaping the daily lives of people in Cameroon. On Friday, for the second time in a month, a child died as a result of a policeman's gunshots.
