In this situation, Covid19 is a disaster for the local people. Only a fraction of the people have health insurance, and the common and urgently needed medicines, for example against malaria, are already too expensive. In addition, there are other crises: The years-long civil war that still divides the country today, high inflation, natural disasters such as the plague of locusts and floods.

Our program officer has summarized the situation in an article for Swisspeace's magazine, showing how the various difficulties are interrelated.

Mission 21 has been working in close partnership with churches and organizations in South Sudan for many years. Integrated measures of development cooperation, peacebuilding and emergency aid are closely intertwined in this work. This gives the flexibility to respond quickly and purposefully to crises and is only possible through strong ties, trust and anchoring in the respective countries.

► Read article in KOFF/Swisspeace magazine

► Learn more about our work in South Sudan

► Donate to the projects in South Sudan

            All News

Even though official figures in South Sudan indicate only a few deaths due to Covid19, the pandemic is life-threatening for the people.
