Some 55 percent of South Africans live in abject poverty and are highly vulnerable. It remains uncertain how the government can keep infection rates low while keeping the economy running. \"Corruption, violence, violence against women and children, and poverty are the order of the day,\" says Godfrey Cunningham.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important role of the churches<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Moravian Church is scattered throughout South Africa and consists of many rural congregations. As president, Godfrey Cunningham tries to meet expectations, stay strong and help as many people as possible, but even he reaches his limits. The loss of revenue has a strong impact on the work in the community. But Godfrey Cunningham is convinced that churches play a crucial role in caring for the spiritual, emotional and material well-being of the people of South Africa.
