The state visit of the Ghanaian president is something special. It is the first time since the end of the colonial era that a national leader from sub-Saharan Africa has come to Switzerland on a state visit.<\/p>\n

The visit is also significant for Mission 21. Ghana was the first country in Africa where the missionaries of the Basel Mission (today the largest supporting association of Mission 21) became permanently active.<\/p>\n

Cocoa in Ghana thanks to Basel missionary<\/strong><\/p>\n

The preview of the SRF radio program Echo of time<\/em> shows that gold and cocoa are Ghana's most important exports to Switzerland. And it also comes up that the cocoa plant was brought to Ghana in the 19th century thanks to a missionary from Basel.<\/p>\n

Africa correspondent Samuel Burri explains in the article the political and economic situation of the West African country and its relations with Switzerland - and he mentions that these relations also contain bitter elements for Ghana.<\/p>\n
