In the fifth episode of the podcast series "Voices of Hope" (Voces de Esperanza), the journalist takes us to the countryside - to women who care about the well-being of their families as well as fertile soil.

Three smallholder farmers are the focus of this podcast episode of "Voices of Hope": all three grow their own fruit and vegetables to feed their families. In doing so, they not only relieve the pressure on their family budget, they also make a contribution to diversified and organic farming. The women experience how important this is in their everyday lives: the consequences of climate change - such as a lack of rain and the associated crop failures - have a direct impact on the lives of smallholder farmers.

They receive support from CEDEPAS. The Peruvian non-governmental organization accompanies the smallholder farmers in their work in the fields, offers training in the production of organic fertilizer, for example, and helps the families to obtain germ-free drinking water or water heated with solar energy for their daily hygiene. The work of CEDEPAS is supported by Mission 21, also through the 2024 campaign.

With "Voices of Hope", Mission 21 presents reports, stories and interviews from the Global South. The focus is on people working for justice and peace. In the first six episodes, journalist Hildegard Willer takes us to Latin America. She talks to her interviewees about concerns and challenges, but also about commitment, hope and happiness.

► Listen or subscribe on Spotify

► To the 2024 campaign page

Der Arapasee: Die Region auf 3800 Meter Höhe sei einer der schönsten Orte Perus, schwärmt Hildegard Willer.
