Elles ont mis en lumi\u00e8re les principes \u00e9ducatifs de la mission et leurs effets dans diff\u00e9rents contextes culturels.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans le dernier webinaire de la s\u00e9rie \"Mission-Colonialism Revisited\", le Dr Dagmar Konrad de l'Universit\u00e9 de B\u00e2le et le Dr Divya Kannan de l'Universit\u00e9 Shiv Nadar \u00e0 Delhi ont donn\u00e9 un aper\u00e7u de leurs recherches. Le webinaire a suscit\u00e9 un grand int\u00e9r\u00eat. Environ 80 personnes int\u00e9ress\u00e9es et sp\u00e9cialistes de diff\u00e9rents continents ont particip\u00e9 en ligne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les deux historiennes ont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 leurs recherches sur les enfants et les enfances dans la sph\u00e8re d'influence de la mission b\u00e2loise \u00e0 l'\u00e9poque coloniale. Les r\u00e9sultats se sont \u00e9clair\u00e9s et compl\u00e9t\u00e9s mutuellement. De nombreuses questions pos\u00e9es par Claudia Buess, responsable des manifestations \u00e9ducatives et animatrice de la s\u00e9rie, ainsi que par les participants ont permis de compl\u00e9ter et d'approfondir ce qui avait \u00e9t\u00e9 entendu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Des biographies familiales bris\u00e9es<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dagmar Konrad a offert un aper\u00e7u de la situation des enfants de missionnaires et de leurs parents au 19e si\u00e8cle. En raison des prescriptions de la Mission de B\u00e2le, les enfants des couples missionnaires \u00e9taient envoy\u00e9s en Europe \u00e0 l'\u00e2ge de six ans afin d'y recevoir une \u00e9ducation chr\u00e9tienne europ\u00e9enne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Konrad a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 - en se concentrant sur les familles missionnaires en Inde - la situation des enfants, de leurs parents et le r\u00f4le des nounous locales, souvent charg\u00e9es de s'occuper des enfants en bas \u00e2ge des couples missionnaires, de mani\u00e8re claire et enrichie de citations tir\u00e9es de lettres. Son expos\u00e9 a mis en lumi\u00e8re de nombreux aspects des biographies familiales bris\u00e9es des familles missionnaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Discipline et travail acharn\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L'historienne indienne Divya Kannan a \u00e9voqu\u00e9 les exp\u00e9riences v\u00e9cues par des enfants indiens dans les internats et les orphelinats de la Mission de B\u00e2le dans diff\u00e9rentes parties du Malabar sous domination britannique, dans le sud de l'Inde actuelle (\u00c9tat du Kerala).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elle a montr\u00e9 comment les orphelins et les enfants issus de familles pauvres avaient certes la possibilit\u00e9 de recevoir une \u00e9ducation dans les institutions de la Mission de B\u00e2le. Celle-ci n'\u00e9tait toutefois pas ax\u00e9e sur l'encouragement des enfants, mais \u00e9tait marqu\u00e9e par la discipline et le dur travail physique.
