Spiritualities and cultures on environmental justice and peacebuilding
Peace is a fragile plant. People and communities around the world are aware of how much it deserves to be protected and nurtured. This is valid for peace that is sought within societies and between nations - but which is all too often violated.
It is, however, also relevant for the earth and the natural elements, that are being consumed, damaged and exploited without consideration of their integrity and without attention to the impact of this exploitation on present and future generations. Humanity is slowly coming to the realization that peace on earth is intimately related to peace with the earth.
Encouragement for new paths to comprehensive peace
Myths, religious traditions, worldviews, spiritualities, knowledge and eco-sensitive lifestyles transmitted from generation to generation encapsulate powerful counter-narratives to an anthropocentric view of nature: the earth, its natural elements, humans and all living beings form an interrelated ecosystem. Building peace with justice therefore constitutes a holistic, in the literal sense, an ecological responsibility.
The 2025 edition of the International Forum on Interfaith and Transcultural Peacebuilding invites participants to embark on a fascinating journey. A journey of discovering peacebuilding and environmental justice through the lenses of diverse religions and cultures. Indigenous and marginalised voices will enrich the conversation with their thoughts and approaches to action. The forum will offer many inspirations for all those interested in charting new avenues of building peace - with all living beings and the earth.
