Campaign 2018: A first peace tree is planted

Joining forces, eleven children lift the pot into the air, carry it to the prepared hole in the ground and gently lower it in. Others grab a spade and shovel soil over the roots. Everyone lends a hand, everyone takes care of the plant that now has its place behind the Reformed Church in Arlesheim.

The tree and the act of planting it together are symbols of peace - the planting action takes place as part of Mission 21's "Peace grows with us" campaign. Mission 21 works for peace in numerous projects around the world. Among others, in countries like Nigeria or South Sudan, where violent conflicts prevail, and in Indonesia, where tensions between Muslims and Christians are increasing. Here, it is particularly important to promote interfaith peace efforts.

Mission 21's peace work is at the center of this year's campaign. Planting a tree is one of several ways to stand up for peace. In Arlesheim, students at the camp led by religion teacher Ursula Meier made this sign for peace.
