In a solemn service on Thursday, September 12, in the Aargau parish of Schlossrued, Evelyn Borer, President of the EKS Synod, was installed in her new office as President of the Board of Mission 21, as were the members of the newly composed Board.
The guests had gathered for this celebration at 2 p.m. in the Reformed Church in Rued. Many international guests from the global Mission 21 community were present via the Internet, as the ceremony was broadcast on Zoom.
The service was led by Pastor Nadine Hassler Bütschi. In her sermon, she spoke about the important task of presiding over a work that is committed to promoting solidarity and a life of dignity for all people on the basis of Christian values. She explained that Jesus needs people who are witnesses to God's work in this world. By being elected to the board of Mission, the members of the board commit themselves to working towards making the world a more humane, healing, hopeful and peaceful place. They should not be afraid that they might fail in this mission, because Jesus called out to his disciples: "Follow me and do not be afraid."
Looking forward to a new task
Gerhard Bütschi, who completed his role as Executive Board member and handed over the reins to Evelyn Borer, wished her every success and said that the Board was looking forward to working with her in the new composition.
In her speech, Evelyn Borer thanked everyone for the trust they have placed in her. She said that she was also looking forward to her new role and was convinced that the goals set can be achieved together with all partner churches and organizations, with supporting organizations and Mission 21 employees.
The service was broadcast live on the internet and is available to watch as a recording.
