Presentations on gender justice and care migration

Vivi Wangka spoke about women's experiences in an emergency shelter for migrant women in Hong Kong.

The content and geographical scope of the event organized by Mission 21 and HEKS ranged from Hong Kong to Basel. Gender researcher and sociologist Franziska Schutzbach, author of the book "The exhaustion of women", took up the topic of care migration in her presentation. This was a continuation of the first presentation of the day. This was about care migration in Southeast Asia. The speaker was Vivi Wangka, head of a project supported by Mission 21. Emergency shelter for migrant women in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong alone, over 140,000 women live as domestic workers, many of whom have left their own children behind out of necessity. They earn money for their families abroad, but very often they experience violence and exploitation.

How this cycle can be broken is shown by our this year's Campaign "Thanks to education, we determine our own future". It shows how access to education gives women more opportunities to shape their own lives.

The campaign starts on September 11 and is actively supported by many parishes. Those present at our event are important multipliers - we would like to thank them for their commitment!
