Mission 21 in the media: portrait of a youth ambassador and Gnesa panel at the center

Youth Ambassadors make statement at Mission 21 Synod: "We are present - not only future".

The newspaper reformiert. focused on "youth" and "women" in its coverage of the Mission 21 synod week in Aarau. The preview of the event highlighted the women's conference on June 13. And as a review in the July issue and online the editorial team chose the portrait of a youth delegate.

The vividly written article introduces us to a thoughtful young adult. The 24-year-old Anna Bachofner is a student of social work in Bern. She is critical of "mission" - but was convinced by the practical work on the ground during a Mission 21 encounter trip to Ghana: "...the positive effects of the peacebuilding projects are highly impressive."

Discussion evening with Eduard Gnesa on refugee policy
The intercantonal church messenger reported in detail on the presentation by Eduard Gnesa on its website. The former UN Special Ambassador of Switzerland for Migration is one of the most profound experts on migration. The article on kirchenbote-online.ch gives a nice overview of the most important statements and facts that Gnesa presented in his paper.

Gnesa also dispelled common prejudices. It is Africa, not Europe, that bears the greatest burden of refugees. The vast majority of African refugees seek protection in neighboring countries or as "internal refugees" in another region of their own country. Refugees who come to Europe, moreover, do so only to a small extent for economic reasons: "Those who apply for asylum in our country are usually genuinely persecuted. Gnesa emphasized.

The Regionaljournal Aargau/Solothurn on Radio SRF 1 reported on the Continental Assembly Europe, one of the sponsoring organizations of Mission 21, in the evening program of June 14, interviewing the host of the mission synod, Rev. Christoph Weber-Berg, president of the Cantonal Church of Aargau.

New Board Member Claudia Hoffmann
Finally, the staffing of the Mission 21 board was a topic for various media. On Friday, June 15, the Mission Synod elected the Basel theologian Dr. Claudia Hoffmann to the Mission 21 board. This was reported on by the media portal of the Reformed, ref.ch, and - as part of a final report on the entire synod - by the media portal of the Catholics, kath.ch.
