Black voices are still underrepresented in mission history. But they do exist, and they tell us much when they are explored.
In the webinar "Black Voices from the Archives," historian Dr. Paul Jenkins presented the accounts of Theophil Opoku, the first black pastor of the Basel Mission in Ghana.
The voices of black women are particularly rare in the archive. But we have knowledge of some of them. Claudia Buess, head of educational events at Mission 21, presented some of them.
