GKP, Sunda Protestant Reformed Church
The first relations between Switzerland and the Pasundan Church (GKP) date back to the 1970s. West Java is a distinctly Islamic region. Christians form only a small minority here, and the GKP also has only about 33,000 members in 51 congregations with 51 pastors. This minority situation in the face of a largely conservative Islam is not easy, which is why the GKP cultivates a cautious approach to the Muslim environment. Without trust-building discussions, peaceful coexistence would not be possible. The knowledge of Islam, the confrontation with it and the interreligious dialogue are therefore extremely important. Through its intensive interreligious cooperation, the GKP reaches younger adults and young people from a broad religious spectrum. Through its cooperation with the large State Islamic University (UIN) in Bandung, GKP aims to strengthen its interfaith engagement in the future. Interfaith women's empowerment, especially in the area of domestic violence, is another focus of GKP's projects. As the first partner church of Mission 21 in Indonesia, the GKP has built a women's shelter for the accompaniment and protection of women affected by violence.
