Lake Titicaca in the Peruvian Andes is the region’s most important lifeline. But this unique body of water is under acute threat: Climate change is causing the water level to drop dramatically, while untreated wastewater from the city of Juliaca and mining waste are polluting the tributaries. People in the region feel the consequences of this crisis every day.
Mission 21 supports young people in their local communities in actively combating environmental degradation. In hands-on courses, young people learn how to properly collect water samples, analyze the data, and present the results in a clear and understandable way. This enables them to provide objective evidence of environmental problems to authorities and demand binding measures for water protection.
With a gift of CHF 80, you’ll enable a young person to participate in this environmental program. Your contribution helps fund initiatives such as:
- Hands-On Workshops: Professional training courses in aquatic ecology and civic engagement.
- Water Test Kits: Reagents and analytical supplies for directly measuring pH, turbidity, and pollutants in rivers and lakes.
- Documentation for Government Agencies: Workbooks and instructions for recording measurement data and writing environmental reports.
- Joint Actions: Networking of dedicated youth groups in the Andes who are working to ensure the long-term preservation of their livelihoods.
