GMIT, Evangelical Church in Timor

The Evangelical Church in Timor—Gereja Masehi Injili di Timor (GMIT)—is one of the largest Protestant churches in Indonesia. With over one million members, it has a presence in large parts of the province of East Nusa Tenggara as well as on other islands in eastern Indonesia. Thanks to its strong roots in the local communities, it reaches people even in remote regions and contributes to local social development.

GMIT is active in areas such as education, community work, disaster preparedness, and humanitarian aid. A particular focus is on promoting gender equality, empowering women and young people, and supporting communities in shaping sustainable futures. To this end, the organization collaborates with local authorities, civil society actors, and ecumenical networks.

Mission 21 and GMIT are collaborating on programs to promote gender equality, prevent gender-based violence, and strengthen livelihoods. Together, they are further developing local counseling and support services, training professionals, and supporting communities in their social and economic development.

In addition, GMIT has many years of experience in disaster preparedness and humanitarian aid. Thanks to its extensive network, the organization can provide rapid assistance in the event of natural disasters and help strengthen the resilience of communities.
