UPC, Protestant University of the DR Congo
The Protestant University of Congo (UPC) was created in 1959 from the then Protestant Theological Faculty of Belgian Congo and Rwanda-Burundi. After various intermediate stages, it became the Protestant University of Congo (UPC) in 1997. The aim of the UPC is to create, through good quality teaching, the conditions to form a national elite capable of meeting the needs of society and the Church. The high percentage of non-Protestants indicates the ecumenical orientation of the UPC. The UPC's relationship with Mission 21 dates back to the 1970s. Mission 21's financial contribution goes to three areas of activity: scholarship fund, library, faculty salaries.
