After more than a year in the Corona pandemic, the Swiss churches are giving Switzerland-wide solidarity a platform on the Internet, between Holy Saturday and Whit Monday, that is, from April 3 to May 24, 2021. The six major Christian churches and associations in Switzerland are jointly launching the trilingual commemorative website Lichtschenken.ch.

The centerpiece of the site will be a Swiss map that will gradually shine brighter and brighter with lights of remembrance, hope, gratitude and solidarity, the churches wrote in their joint media release on Monday, March 29.

All people are invited to share thoughts, greetings and messages connected with a light on this map of Switzerland. This then shines in the respective canton of residence and can even be forwarded.

Churches launch campaign - President Parmelin supports it

The Evangelical Reformed Church of Switzerland (EKS), the Swiss Bishops' Conference (SBK), the Roman Catholic Central Conference of Switzerland (RKZ), the Christian Catholic Church of Switzerland (CKK), the Association of Christian Churches in Switzerland (AGCK) and the Swiss Evangelical Alliance (SEA) are jointly launching this campaign.

President Guy Parmelin also supports the solidarity campaign. At the big kick-off, he speaks out in a video and lights the first light on Lichtschenken.ch. He thanks all the people and institutions who are involved in the Corona crisis and are helping to overcome it. "At Easter, this light is a symbol of hope. I invite everyone to also light a candle on Lichtschenken.ch over the next fifty days and thus set a sign of hope for the future," he said.

Mission 21 welcomes solidarity action

As the international mission agency of the Protestant Reformed Churches in Switzerland, Mission 21 supports this solidarity action and is happy to spread the call. The action invites to a commitment of solidarity and to a mutual exchange. This sign of solidarity in Switzerland is also a symbol of hope for solidarity worldwide.

The president of the EKS, Rita Famos, says about the action: "Lichtschenken.ch will be a very different kind of Corona demonstration: a demonstration of our cohesion and our confidence. Because actually we are "protest people against death" in all its variations. By giving light, we offer frustration, fatigue, sadness and blame."
